archaeology of the city
Set in Edinburgh, the library of the city is inspired by urban archaeology. Confined by the limitations of its surroundings, the library is designed as an introspective space. The library consists of two inhabited walls that run the length of the building. From the datum level of the library, sunken spaces open up subterranean passageway of books. Some spaces are shallow to provide seating, whilst others recede even further to create circulation below the ground.
